Connecting Communities

The Broadway Extension will connect communities and people across the region:

  • Getting to work in Central Broadway – the province's second largest jobs centre – will be fast and efficient

  • Getting to appointments at Western Canada’s largest hospital, Vancouver General Hospital, and to the many health care services along Broadway will be easier

  • Connecting to Canada Line and YVR Airport without a car will be a new reality for more people around the region

  • Getting to school at Emily Carr, UBC, and Vancouver Community College will be easier than ever

Why rapid transit for Broadway?

The Broadway corridor is home to the:

  • Busiest bus route in Canada and the U.S.A.

  • Largest hospital in Western Canada

  • Second-largest employment centre in B.C.

  • Busiest transit station in the region: Commercial–Broadway Station

More than 100,000 transit trips are made to Central Broadway each day, as people do business and get to work, school, and appointments in the area. The current 99 B-Line express and local bus services can no longer meet demand and thousands of passengers are passed up every year by full buses.

The Broadway Extension will carry more people ensuring that everyone gets to their destination on time.

The underground SkyTrain will keep people and goods moving and help to reduce congestion on the busiest corridor in the region.
